Augustin Verdier compounded this in the courtyard workshop the year he opened the house, and it has never been reformulated — not because nothing could be improved, but because the ledger entry is treated as a historical document as much as a working formula. The rose comes from the same two-hectare plot the house has bought from since 1897; the grower’s family and ours have renewed the same handshake arrangement for five generations without either side asking for a contract.
At eau de parfum concentration, the aldehydes read brighter in the first twenty minutes than they will at any other tier we bottle — dilute them further and they thin out before the rose has a chance to take over.
